Attendance Policy
It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that their child leaves for school at the appropriate time every day.
Parents must advise the school prior to 8:30 a.m. if their child will be absent.
Students must return from an absence with a note from a parent specifying the nature of the absence. A telephone number, where the parents can be reached during the day, should appear on the note.
Any student forging a parent’s note may be suspended for one day.
Students who are frequently absent will be signaled to the administration. The student and parents may be asked to attend a case conference to review attendance and plan a strategy for improvement.
Students who are frequently absent due to illness may be required to have a doctor’s note before being re-admitted to school.
Chronic absence leads to school failure because teachers cannot evaluate the student’s performance. Youth protection will be contacted in the event of unjustified chronic absence.
Students are responsible for catching up on work missed during absence.
Students are expected to be present for all tests or
examinations, barring serious illness. Teachers will advise
students in advance when tests are scheduled. A note will be
sent home advising parents of the situation and inviting their
support and collaboration. All absences for tests will be
scrutinized carefully and a doctor’s note may be required.
